Alex Pereira is fed up with constant starts that are taking a negative toll on his health. The UFC welterweight champion has decided to take a break from competing.
Alex Pereira recorded a phenomenal victory in the fight of the evening at the UFC 307 event in Salt Lake City. The Poatan defended his welterweight championship belt by knocking out Khalil Rountree in the fourth round. Alex Pereira made his UFC debut in November 2021, since then he has fought ten fights and managed to win championship belts of two weight categories.
The UFC welterweight champion, while speaking to reporters after the gala, said he intended to rest. Alex Pereira also revealed any problems he faced during the training camp for the fight against Rountree.
– I think I deserved a rest. Many things happened during this preparatory camp, my team members know that. I had to fly to Brazil last month because I had problems getting a visa. I went to the consulate every day to see if I could pick up my passport and necessary documents. When I flew to the U.S. I was only home in Connecticut for a week, then I flew immediately to Salt Lake City. I took antibiotics, had a fever and throat problems. While I was still in Brazil I renewed my rib injury.
Alex Pereira has indicated what he intends to do in the near future. Poatan wants to travel, first fulfilling contractual and sponsorship obligations, and then go on a well-deserved vacation.
– I want my body to rest. I will be traveling. I have commitments to sponsors, seminars in Mexico, Malta and Korea. Later I will want to fly to Bali with my manager Jorge Guimares, we will take my other manager Ed Soares with me. I want to take a break from competing, but I will train.
