Alexander Volkanovski stopped Diego Lopes and regained his UFC belt

Alexander Volkanovski is back on the throne of the featherweight division. The Australian stopped Diego Lopes and regained the UFC championship belt.

Alexander Volkanovski and Diego Lopes dueled in the most important fight of the UFC 314 gala in Miami. At stake in the five-round main event was the UFC featherweight championship belt. The title remained without a champion after Ilya Topuria moved up a division.

Alexander Volkanovski was featherweight category champion in the past and dreams of returning to the throne. Diego Lopes slowly climbed the rungs of the rankings until he finally got the chance to fight for the championship belt.

Alex Volkanovski attempted an interesting combination with a backfist and a spin. Volk hit the Brazilian with his fists and immediately Lopes’ face reddened. Diego, however, calls for a fight. Good exchange at short range. Long right of Diego however Alex responds with a powerful punch. Volkanovski hits with a powerful left and Lopes wobbled on his feet. Alex goes to wrestle and tries to go for an overthrow, eventually attacking with punches beautifully cuts out the opponent. Great action by Volkanovski, who ends the round with punches from the top.

Good boxing work by Alex Volkanovski. The former champion dictates the pace of the duel. Both fighters work with left straight. Alex once again hits hard and wobbled on his feet Lopes leaning against the net. However, the Brazilian managed to defend the wrestling action. A right-left-right combination by Volk. A ruthless exchange at the end of the round. Diego Lopes hits and Volkanovski lands on the boards, however, he quickly recovered and defended until the final seconds.

Alex brings out strong low kicks. Volk’s good right hand. Diego responds with an unconventional attack. Volk bites with a left straight while Lopes hits with an uppercut. Exchange in the middle of the cage. The Australian made an attempt to go to the ground, however Diego excelled in his defense. Volkanovski hits with a strong right. Lopes encourages Alexa to fight, however, the round comes to an end.

Both fighters started the fourth installment with low kicks and straights. Volk hit twice. Another exchange at half-distance in which Volk brilliantly avoided the Brazilian’s extensive attack. The experienced Australian is more effective than Lopes. The Mexican puts on chaos and turns up the tempo. Good action by Diego, who chased Alex under the net. The former champion in retreat clearly felt the blows of his younger rival. One of the punches reached Alex’s left eye, however, it was a legal strike, as the Brazilian smeared the tip of his glove across his opponent’s eyelid.

Alex Volkanovski hit with short punches. Diego Lopes attacked with a spinner, however, he cut the air with his leg and missed a lot to hit the opponent. Great work by the experienced veteran to keep his opponent at bay. Lopes again urges the battle and exchanges. Volkanovski doesn’t get drawn into silly exchanges. A very reasonable fight by Alex, who hit the end with an extensive hook. Alexander Volkanovski defeated Diego Lopes by unanimous decision of the judges and regained the championship belt.
