Alexander Volkov will appear in a contender’s bout for the heavyweight belt. The Russian will return on June 14 at the UFC gala in Atlanta, and his opponent is expected to be Jailton Almeida.
Alexander Volkov is preparing for a comeback after raking in a clash with Ciryl Gane. The experienced Russian hasn’t fought since a controversial December points loss to the French kickboxer. Volkov is scheduled to appear on June 14 in one of the fights of the evening at the UFC gala in Atlanta.
According to preliminary information, a specific opponent to be faced by Volkov is even already agreed upon. The 36-year-old fighter from Moscow is scheduled to fight Jailton Almeida, so it will be a fight between contenders for the heavyweight belt.
The Brazilian recently mentioned his desire to bring the Russian to a skirmish, which has been contracted in the past.
– I can fight Volkov, this fight was already contracted in the past however it did not happen. I am the only one he has not fought.
The fighters were scheduled to face each other in June 2024, however Alexander Volkov was moved to a bout with Sergei Pavlovich at the UFC gala in Riyadh. It is interesting to note that at that time Volkov had a series of victories on his record, and Almeida was on the losing end. Now the situation has reversed, and it is Alexander’s record that shows a red square next to his last fight, while the Brazilian’s side has two wins in a row.
The Volkov vs Almeida duel may determine the next contender for the heavyweight belt. Of course, much will depend on how the fate of the Jones vs Aspinall juxtaposition is decided.
