Alexandre Pantoja will face a title defense at UFC 310. The Brazilian’s rival will be Kai Asakura, making his UFC debut. The Japanese is a former champion of the Rizin organization.
The UFC organization today announced a matchup that has strongly shocked fans and experts. Alexandre Pantoja and Kai Asakura will face off at UFC 310 on Saturday, December 7. This means that an absolute rookie in the organization will fight for the UFC championship belt.
Alexandre Pantoja (28-5) holds a series of six wins in a row. The Brazilian “Cannibal” has gained momentum and has chomped six consecutive rivals with taste. Pantoja reached for the championship title in July 2023 when he defeated Brandon Moreno for the second time in his career at UFC 290. Since then, Pantoja has defended the belt twice, defeating Brandon Royval and Steve Erceg after judges’ decisions.
Kai Asakura (21-4) has won the Rizin organization’s cockfighting championship twice. The younger of the two Asakura brothers is currently one of the biggest stars on the Japanese MMA scene. Kai has victories over such heavyweights as Kyoji Horiguchi and Juan Archuleta on his record. The 30-year-old Asakura has made the decision to move down to the flyweight division so as to improve his chances in the UFC organization.
The Japanese probably did not assume that already in his premiere fight in the UFC he would face the champion. The juxtaposition can therefore boldly be called a champion vs champion fight. Alexandre Pantoja and Kai Asakura will meet in the octagon on December 7 at UFC 310 in Las Vegas.
