Aljamain Sterling former champion of the UFC organization has hinted at the names of two potential rivals. The popular Aljo wants to return to competition in April.
Aljamain Sterling is a former UFC champion in the cockweight division, who decided to move up a category after losing his championship belt. Nicknamed the Funk Master, the fighter from New York is currently ranked ninth in the featherweight category.
Sterling would probably be ranked higher if not for a loss to Movsar Evloev in his last appearance. The experienced less than 36-year-old American is slowly preparing to return to the octagon. Aljamain Sterling would like to fight another fight in April, and has pointed to the names of two potential rivals on his radar.
– Many people believe that I did not lose the last fight. I also, after watching it several times, claim that I did not lose, while the judges are judges, they saw the course of the fight differently. Of course I would like to get a chance for a rematch, however, I am also interested in fights with Arnold Allen and Brian Ortega.
Aljamain Sterling was asked how he views a possible fight with any of the fighters who are ranked lower behind him in the UFC rankings. After a moment of thought, the former champion answered.
– I want to fight the fighters who are in front of me, I don’t want to look back, but if I have to prove my worth against a lower ranked opponent then, I will.
Sterling also addressed his dreams and the competition for the belt of the up to 66 kilogram category. According to the former champion of the cockerel division, a great impact on the featherweight category will be the decisions of Ilia Topuria.
– I dream of another title, a second championship belt in the UFC collection, something like that no one would take away from me, it would be my legacy. I think I am one, two wins away from such a chance. A lot will depend on Topuria’s move, if Ilya goes higher and vacates the belt it will open the way for the next contenders.
