Former UFC welterweight champion Magomed Ankalaev was once again in the spotlight after the UFC 327 gala. The Russian didn’t mince words and hit back at Jiri Prochazka, tapping into the narrative of the new division champion.

Carlos Ulberg opened a new chapter in the welterweight division, knocking out Prochazka and reaching for the vacant belt. What’s particularly impressive is that he did it despite serious problems – he suffered a leg injury early in the fight, and still managed to turn the tide of the clash and end it with one powerful punch.

Ankalaev responds to Prokhazka: “The easiest fight in the division”.

After the duel, Prochazka’s words about “pity” resonated, and were quickly picked up by the media and the MMA community. Ulberg also addressed this narrative, and the Czech himself was not about to back down and maintained his position.

In the meantime, Prochazka began looking around for more rivals. Among the potential names he mentioned Ankalaev and Paulo Costa. The Russian, who last fought at UFC 320 and lost there to Alex Pereira, quickly responded to the taunt.

Ankalaev’s entry on X (formerly Twitter) was extremely harsh:

– Jiri Prochazka was knocked out by a guy standing on one leg, and now he is challenging me, although he knows very well that I already have a rival.

Carlos Ulberg is right, this guy posturing. He never wanted to fight me. This is the easiest fight in the welterweight division.

The situation is complicated by the fact that Ulberg will most likely be out of competition for several months due to a torn ACL ligament. It is still unclear whether the organization will decide to fight for an interim belt during this time.

One thing is undeniable – the tension between Prokazka and Ankalaev is steadily growing. If everything works out the matchmakers’ way, their clash could be one of the loudest juxtapositions of the coming months.
