Magomed Ankalaev has reacted to Jon Jones’ recent statements. The Dagestanian claims that the American was scared of Tom Aspinall.
In recent days, Jon Jones has openly admitted that the only fighter who can encourage him to continue his career is Alex Pereira. The American would be ready to fight one more fight in the UFC after his scheduled bout at UFC 309, precisely if the rival would be the champion of the welterweight division.
These words of Jon Jones resonated in the MMA world and he was criticized not only by other fighters, but also by journalists and fans. Many people suggested that Jones is clearly avoiding a duel with Tom Aspinall, fearing that he will lose and his achievements will be “zeroed out.” Now Magomed Ankalaev, a top contender for the welterweight belt, has addressed the topic.
Ankalaev commented on one of the posts on the MMA Orbit channel, where he wrote.
– It sounds like someone was scared of Big Tom.
Magomed Ankalaev was obviously referring to Tom Aspinall, the UFC interim heavyweight champion. The Dagestanian suggested that Jon Jones is afraid of confronting the excellent Englishman. In the past, Aspinall has spoken favorably about Ankalaev, who also appreciates the skills of the 31-year-old heavyweight from the British Isles.
Jon Jones has so far not responded to the words of Magomed, undefeated for twelve fights. The American is focused on the person of Stipe Miocic and the duel in the evening fight of the UFC 309 gala, which will take place on Saturday, November 16 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
