Arman Tsarukyan has confirmed the rejection of an offer for a rematch bout with Mateusz Gamrot in the fight of the evening at the UFC’s July gala in Abu Dhabi.
Arman Tsarukyan was the official reserve in the championship bout at UFC 317. The Armenian-born fighter made the lightweight division limit but ultimately did not jump onto the schedule, as Ilia Topuria and Charles Oliveira successfully made weight.
Arman Tsarukyan gave an interview to Ariel Helwani. During the conversation, many topics were discussed, and one of them was the fight offers that the UFC‘s top lightweight fighter received from matchmakers.
During the interview, Arman confirmed that an offer to fight Justin Gathje came in the spring, however, the fighter knew that he would not be able to make weight at that time and offered a catchweight, which in turn was not agreed to from the UFC office.
Arman Tsarukyan rejected offer of rematch with Gamrot
From the perspective of Polish fans, it was the second proposal that was definitely more interesting. For it turns out that the matchmakers offered Arman Tsarukyan a rematch with Mateusz Gamrot.
During an interview with a Canadian journalist, Tsarukyan gave a reason for rejecting the proposal.
– I turned down the Abu Dhabi fight with Gamrot because we are from the same club, we train with the same fighters and I didn’t want another conflict during the preparation camp.
This is a complete change of narrative on the part of Arman, who had previously repeatedly said that the Pole did not deserve a rematch, was ranked too low and was after his defeat to Dan Hooker. It is also worth mentioning that Tsarukyan did not train at all in recent months at American Top Team but prepared in Armenia, Russia and Los Angeles.
