Arman Tsarukayn has confirmed that he has rejected a rematch with Mateusz Gamrot. The top contender considered the UFC matchmakers’ proposal an insult.
Arman Tsarukyan is ranked number one in the lightweight category in the UFC rankings. Tsarukyan was scheduled to fight for the championship belt against Islam Makhachev, however, he dropped out of the bout at the last minute explaining a back injury.
Many fans, fighters and experts don’t buy this excuse from Arman, suggesting that something simply went wrong while making weight before the championship fight. In the end, Tsarukyan was first to treat himself, and then had to face the consequences of his withdrawal.
Dana White immediately after Islam’s January fight announced that Tsarukyan would definitely not be his next opponent. Matchmakers, of course, aligned themselves with the boss’ decision and began looking for a suitable opponent for Ahalkalakets. It fell on Mateusz Gamrot and the offer of a rematch in the evening fight of the UFC’s July gala in Dubai.
Arman Tsarukyan has decided to reject the offer. The Armenian-born fighter did not hide his disappointment with the offer sent by the UFC.
– I refused because they gave me a rival ranked lower, they upset me because they offered me a fighter after a defeat. They could have given me Hooker, who has a series of victories. The rematch with Gamrot didn’t make sense, he’s the one who needs it, not me. Why did the UFC want to give him such a gift?
Recall that in the first fight Mateusz Gamrot was better on points. Of course, Tsarukyan made excuses for his definitely higher ranking than the Pole, and also mentioned that Gamer lost in his last fight. The question, then, is who will be Arman’s opponent and whether the fighter is not treading on thin ice, as it may soon turn out that he will fall out of favor completely and get an opponent ranked lower than the Pole.
