Belal Muhammad announced that in his fight with Jack Della Maddalena he does not intend to topple. The UFC welterweight champion wants to show off his boxing.
Belal Muhammad will defend his welterweight division championship belt at UFC 315 in Montreal. The Palestinian-born fighter’s rival will be Jack Della Maddalena, who is undefeated in the UFC organization.
Belal Muhammad won the title thanks to good stand-up work and great knockdowns. Muhammad unexpectedly announced on The Coach and the Casual podcast that he does not intend to take the fight to the mat this time.
– I intend to enter the octagon and box Jack. I won’t make a single takedown, I’ll show him my hands like Canelo. I will prove to all UFC fighters and fans that I am the best boxer in the organization.
The fighter, who lives and trains in Chicago, appreciates the fierceness of the contender, and the fact that he is able to get up and not give up when he is brought to the mat.
– I think I can bring him down however I am not one of those who underestimate rivals. Yes he had fights where he was knocked down on the mat however, despite this he got up and continued the duel. Even in the last fight with Gilbert Burns there was such a 30-second fight, where he showed heart for the fight. It seems to me that this guy will not give up, he will not just let go.
Belal Muhammad hinted at what will be the key to claiming victory in the fight against Della Maddalena.
– I have to be ready for a high tempo from the very beginning so that I can match what Jack usually does. He is aggressive and imposes pressure from the first seconds, I think that’s why he has won so often. However, there is a difference if you fight someone who also pressures and even does it better than you. Then you have to start stepping back, and if you do that you can’t deliver punches.
