Ben Askren was hospitalized in May after he developed severe pneumonia due to a staph infection. The former champion of the Bellator and ONE organizations was in serious condition and doctors had to fight for his life for a long time.
The American managed to survive until it became clear that a double lung transplant was necessary. Askren successfully underwent the complicated operation. – I weighed myself yesterday and I weigh only 66 kilograms. The last time I weighed that much was when I was 15 years old. I lost about 22 kilograms of weight. I have received a lot of support and love from the entire wrestling community during this time. I love you all and appreciate what you have done for me and my family during these difficult times.
Ben Askren will now focus on slow rehabilitation, gaining strength and recovering. At the moment, it’s hard for doctors to say how long this will take.
