Ben Askren has managed to return to the wrestling mat after a lung transplant. The American’s recovery can be considered a great miracle.
Ben Askren is a former Bellator and ONE champion who also tried his hand at the UFC, and his story is perfect for a movie. In May of this year, the American was hospitalized after contracting a staph infection. As he later revealed himself, he was hooked up to a machine that kept him alive, as his heart stopped four times and doctors had to struggle to restore his vitals.
Ben Askren managed to survive, thanks to the help of specialists, and then underwent a double lung transplant. The athlete in early July posted the first video after the complicated operation, when he could barely speak and lost, as much as 22 kilograms of weight.
Later, from time to time, Ben surprised fans and fellow athletes with more good information. First he presented how he was learning to get up from the bed again, then he gradually strengthened his body so that he could “learn” to walk again.
