Beneil Dariush suggested that Mateusz Gamrot could cause some problems for Ilia Topuria. The American pointed out the Pole’s main advantage in a possible duel with the champion.
The UFC 317 gala took place in Las Vegas this past weekend, with Beneil Dariush and Ilia Topuria winning fights in the main card of the event. Benny defeated Renato Moicano after a judges’ decision, while Matador knocked out Charles Oliveira in the first round. Topuria won the UFC lightweight belt with the victory.
Beneil Dariush, in an interview with The Schmo, said that Mateusz Gamrot would be an interesting opponent for the new lightweight division champion. The American pointed out the Pole’s trump card, which could make it difficult for Topuria.
– Looking stylistically I think someone like Gamrot could cause some problems for Ilia. He can get on the feet and does it not once, twice, and notoriously until he finally brings you down. That could be something effective in a fight with Ilia. I don’t know, but I think it’s a way that could work.
Mateusz Gamrot and Beneil Dariush fought a three-round bout in October 2022. The American was the top then, who was minimally better and claimed the win by unanimous decision of the judges.
Of course, at the moment there is little indication that Mateusz Gamrot will be Ilia Topuria’s next opponent. After all, the Georgian has expressed a desire to fight Paddy Pimblett. This juxtaposition does not necessarily please the UFC, and according to the latest leaks, the aforementioned Englishman would fight Justin Gaethje at UFC 319 in Chicago.
