Brandon Moreno scored a confident win at the UFC gala in Mexico. With this win, the former champion moved closer to the record for the most wins in the flyweight division in UFC history.
Brandon Moreno as a former champion of the flyweight category proves that he has not yet said his last word in this division. The 31-year-old Mexican confidently outpointed Steve Erceg in the evening fight of Saturday’s gala in Mexico.
It was an important victory for Moreno not only as far as the current UFC ranking is concerned, but also in terms of historical achievements in the up to 57 kilogram category. “The Assassin Baby” came close to the record of victories in the division.
Currently, Alexandre Pantoja, Demetrious Johnson and Joseph Benavidez are jointly ranked first in this regard. All of those listed have 13 wins each in the flyweight category in the UFC octagon. Alexandre Pantoja is the current champion, who will probably want to push that score even higher. Johnson and Benavidez have already ended their professional careers.
Brandon Moreno by defeating Erceg recorded his 11th win in the flyweight division which puts him just behind the aforementioned three. Just behind Moreno’s back is his former rival Deiveson Figueiredo, however, the 37-year-old Brazilian has switched to a higher category suggesting that age does not allow him to put on as many pounds as before.
Two more wins will therefore allow Brandon Moreno to join the elite. It is possible that in the meantime the next wins will also add to the record of Pantoja, who still does not have another fight contracted.
