Cain Velasquez former champion of the UFC organization has been sentenced to five years in prison. The sentence was handed down Monday in a Santa Clara County court.

Cain Velasquez will spend the next few years behind bars. Judge Arthur Bocanegra announced the sentence for the fighter, who was charged with armed assault and attempted murder. The prosecution had called for a sentence of 25 years to life imprisonment.

Cain Velasquez was arrested in February 2022 after he went on a car chase after a man who had molested his son at a daycare center. Velasquez fired several shots at the vehicle driven by Harry Goularte.

The former UFC champion spent a considerable amount of time behind bars, but was finally released after posting $1 million bail after several failed attempts. Unfortunately, when everyone expected Velasquez to be able to focus on his coaching work at the American Kickboxing Academy a verdict was handed down that was extremely unfavorable to the fighter.

Reading the sentence, Judge Arthur Bocanegra had tears in his eyes and said that the worst possible sentence for a father is to be deprived of his ability to care for his son. According to preliminary information provided by journalist Amy Larson, Cain’s 1,283 days behind bars during sanctions will be counted as part of his sentence. This means that the fighter will spend about a year and a half in prison, and then he should be released.
