Chael Sonnen does not want Alex Pereira to have a rematch fight with Magomed Ankalaev. The veteran has indicated the UFC has a far better solution.
Alex Pereira lost his championship belt at UFC 313, with the Brazilian losing the fight to Magomed Ankalaev. The duel for the UFC welterweight division title did not thrill fans and experts. Shortly after the fight, Pereira admitted that he went into the fight injured.
Chael Sonnen referred to the course of the fight and made it clear who dominated the clash. According to the Oregon fighter, not much would have changed if the fight had lasted longer or if there had been a rematch.
– There was not much competition in this fight. Magomed won this fight 4-1, yes, exactly four rounds to one. Of course, Pereira defended the takedowns brilliantly, but that would have been it. Let’s approach the subject as follows, if there had been rounds 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 would anything have changed? I don’t think so, the course of the fight would probably have been similar. Are we now to believe that Alex will learn a lesson and a valuable lesson from this defeat and do better in the rematch?
Sonnen doesn’t want Pereira to fight a rematch with Ankalaev
Chael Sonnen does not want Alex Pereira to have a rematch fight with Magomed Ankalaev. The experienced American who has eaten his teeth in MMA pointed out a far better solution, and in the process reminded fans of the hard truth about Pereira’s past.
– How Pereira ended up in the welterweight category is very different from how fans remembered it. I think many people succumbed to the false impression that Pereira went to the division up to 93 kilograms because he cleared the middleweight category. Nothing of the sort happened. He lost, and when the defeat came he was no longer tethered in that category, nothing depended on him and he could do whatever he wanted that’s why he went higher. Now we have a similar situation, if we want him to go to the heavyweight category this is the right time for it.
Chael Sonnen has a clear plan for what the UFC organization should do now with Alex Pereira. The American has hinted at how to properly use the Brazilian.
– You can match him up with the winner of the Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall fight, or even declare him the official reserve for that fight. I think the UFC organization should take the opportunity to do so.
Alex Pereira has fought eleven fights in the UFC of which he lost two. Poatan will celebrate his 38th birthday this year and has mentioned more than once before that he would like to move up to the royal division.
