Chael Sonnen on the future of Jon Jones and the UFC heavyweight category

Chael Sonnen commented on the future of Jon Jones and the situation in the heavyweight category, according to the former fighter the champion will end his career in 2025.

Chael Sonnen has been working as a commentator and analyst since his pro career ended. Younger MMA fans may not remember this, so it is worth mentioning that the Oregon fighter fought Jon Jones for the UFC welterweight championship belt in April 2013.

Chael Sonnen decided to comment on a former rival on the Good Guy Bad Guy program, which he co-hosts with Daniel Cormier notoriously another former Jones rival. In the latest material presented by the veterans, a discussion about the heavyweight category arose.

Chael Sonnen has taken to predicting what will happen in 2025. The 47-year-old makes it clear and claims that Jon Jones will end his career this year. As if that wasn’t enough, Sonnen has stated that he believes Jones will have a farewell fight in the UFC against Tom Aspinall.

– As for my boldest prediction for 2025, it is something I am pretty sure of – Jon Jones will end his career. I will also tell you that Jon Jones will actually fight Tom Aspinall. I will say that Jon will do much better in a clash with Tom than people expect, but that is a conversation for another time. When this fight happens, whether Jon wins or loses, it will be his last appearance.

According to Sonnen, Jon Jones had hoped that the fight with Stipe Miocic would be the last one, however, as everything was postponed Tom Aspinall appeared on the scene, and Francis Ngannou and Sergei Pavlovich dropped out of the summit game.

– He is looking for a way out. He is studying the opinions of fans, checking what he needs to do before retiring. He thought Stipe would be a way out for him, but that was delayed. Because of this, Tom came on the scene, and we stopped talking about Francis Ngannou and Sergei Pavlovich. I think Jon has a clear message from the fans that he has one fight left. I think it will be Tom and that at the same time it will be a farewell fight for Jones.
