Mateusz Gamrot and Charles Oliveira faced each other in the fight of the evening at the UFC gala in Rio de Janeiro. Although the Pole jumped onto the schedule a little over two weeks before the event, with each passing day more and more fighters and experts pointed to him as the favorite of the clash.
Mateusz Gamrot was ranked eighth in the light heavyweight division before the bout, and believed that a victory over the former champion would allow him to re-enter the top five and thus bring him much closer to fighting for the belt.
Charles Oliveira started with low kicks, to which he added several punches in the standup. Mateusz Gamrot responded with a strong punch. The fighters found themselves in the ground, where Gamer was on top, but Charles Oliveira went for the Pole’s arm and pinned the lever. The Brazilian groundskeeper ace efficiently removed his arm and fastened the omoplata. Gamrot, however, recovered brilliantly and wanted to go for his rival’s leg himself. Unfortunately, the Brazilian got out of the oppression very smoothly and went for the choke from behind. Great form of the experienced former champion. Gamrot gets up with Oliveira pinned behind his back. The Pole has 60 seconds to last until the end of the round. Fortunately, he persevered and did not allow himself to be surprised.
An interesting start to the second installment, in which Mateusz Gamrot more actively attacked with a series of punches in the stand-up. Charles Oliveira responded by trying to use his reach advantage. Do Bronx wanted to impose his pace and way of fighting. Good right of Gamer however Charles responded with a solid elbow. Charles Oliveira lifts Mateusz Gamrot up and throws the Pole against the mat, but the Pole did not let himself be crushed to the mat. It didn’t take long for Oliveira to get behind Gamrota’s back again, first putting the pressure on and then locking up the choke from behind, forcing Gamrota to tap out. Charles Oliveira defeated Mateusz by submission.
