A trainer kicked a fighter during the weigh-in before the Cage Warriors 191 gala, which led to a brawl and the consequent cancellation of the championship fight.
Liam Gittins and Alessandro Giordano were scheduled to face each other in the evening fight of the Cage Warriors 191 gala in Manchester. Unfortunately, the fight for the championship belt of the bantamweight division will not take place despite the fact that both fighters filled the contracted weight limit.
During the official weigh-in ceremony, Gittins and Giordano began to push each other slightly. Unexpectedly, one of Giordano’s coaches decided to kick the Englishman. This led to a huge brawl between members of both staffs. It took the organization’s representatives and security guards a long time to separate the two teams.
Exchanging words and pushing between the participants of the fight is nothing new, and fans are used to this kind of action. What is surprising, however, is the behavior of a member of the Italian corner, who decided to pull a punch.
Graham Boylan president of the Cage Warriors organization issued a statement in which he communicated that while he understands the usual pushback between fighters, the behavior of the coach in Giordano’s corner was beneath criticism.
The bloodthirsty corner received a lifetime ban from the head of Cage Warriors, which led to Alessandro Giordano’s decision to drop out of the evening’s fight. In the end, therefore, Liam Gittins will also not appear at tonight’s event, as there was no reserve fighter who could jump into the championship bout.
