Conor McGregor revealed what injury he sustained during his fight against Max Holloway at UFC 329. The former two-time UFC champion shared the details of his diagnosis with fans and also commented on a possible date for his return to the Octagon.

Fans had been waiting five years for the Irishman’s return. Leading up to the event, there was no shortage of comments suggesting that “The Notorious” no longer generated the same excitement as he did years ago, but the reality turned out to be quite different. Viewership data showed a clear increase in interest in UFC 329, and McGregor was the event’s biggest draw.

The rematch with Max Holloway, however, turned out to be a huge disappointment. The fight ended before the halfway point of the first round, when Conor McGregor suffered an injury during the very first exchange and was unable to continue.

Yesterday, the Irishman posted on X (formerly Twitter), revealing details of his injury and providing an initial update on his rehabilitation.

– The injury I sustained was damage to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and the meniscus. It’s exactly the same injury I suffered in my first fight against Holloway, only this time in my other leg. Pretty shocking. I returned to competition within nine months back then to face Diego Brandao.

The former UFC champion emphasized that advances in medicine and modern rehabilitation methods give him hope for a quicker return to full fitness.

– Thanks to today’s advances in regenerative medicine and improved training methods, a return by next summer is definitely within my reach. I’m walking without crutches. A few days ago, I worked out on the leg extension machine without the slightest problem. I can already walk without assistance and contract my quadriceps under load. Everything is looking very positive.

In closing, McGregor admitted that despite the unfortunate outcome of the fight, he is trying to view the whole situation with optimism and believes he avoided much more serious consequences.

– I’ve been exercising the utmost discipline and have stuck to it completely ever since the fight. I wonder if I wasn’t spared from something worse. I believe that’s the case. I would have gone to the after-party as “just a guy,” and who knows what would have happened then. I believe I was spared. Thank God! We’re moving on—no sad stories. Thank you all for your support and kind words; your health is your greatest wealth.
