Cory Sandhagen defeated Deiveson Figueiredo in the evening fight of the UFC gala in Des Moines. The Brazilian suffered a knee injury late in the second round.

Cory Sandhagen and Deiveson Figueiredo met in the evening fight of the UFC gala in Des Moines. The organization returned to the state of Iowa after 25 years with a great event. The top fighters in the cockerel category faced each other in a bout contracted for five rounds.

Cory Sandhagen was the main event favorite and announced that he wanted to finish the Brazilian before time so as to win the right to fight for the championship belt. The American lived up to his predictions. At the end of the second round, the fighters found themselves on the ground, where Sandhagen intercepted Figueiredo’s leg.

The Brazilian tried to twist, get closer to the American and get behind his back. However, this led to a situation in which the leg of the former champion of the flyweight category was more tightly trapped in the leverage and consequently the knee shot out. However, nothing can be taken away from Sandhagen, who held his rival’s leg all the time, and when the popular Figgy fell backwards Cory immediately began to hit him with punches.

Cory Sandhagen is back on the winning track and has rebuilt after losing to Umar Nurmagomedov. The 33-year-old Sandman is undoubtedly a top contender for the belt, and he also has the bonus of not having fought Merab Dvalishvili and Sean O’Malley yet.
