Curtis Blaydes admitted before his fight at UFC 313 that he had no idea who his opponent was and had to google search his name.
Curtis Blaydes will face Rizvan Kuniev at UFC 313. Listed fifth in the UFC‘s heavyweight rankings, the American will therefore face an unknown fighter from outside the rankings, who is just making his debut in the world’s best MMA league.
Curtis Blaydes, in an interview with MMAFighting reporters, talked about how he reacted when an offer came in for a fight with a fighter who is not known in the US.
– I had to think twice. But I always say that if the money is the same whether it’s Jon Jones or a rookie then I’ll take the fight.
Curtis Blaydes didn’t know who his rival was
Curtis Blaydes admitted that he had no idea who his opponent was. Razor knew nothing about his opponent’s achievements and fighting style. Consequently, Blaydes had to search for news about his rival on google.
– I had to google his name. I saw his fight in the Contender Series, well, and so far that’s really his only fight I’ve watched. My impression of him is that he’s such a traditional style heavyweight, he throws hard, voluminous punches and hopes to knock you out quickly.
Rizvan Kuniev had a valuable victory over Renan Ferreira on his record, but the result of the fight was changed to a no contest because the Dagestan recorded a doping slip-up. Curtis Blaydes addressed this situation as well. The American stated that anabolics will not help the Russian to get the win.
– That’s what I’ve heard about that as well. Who knows something might be in it. Maybe he needed time to get it out of his system? On the other hand, I honestly heard earlier such rumors about Jailton Almeida that he was a doper, he was indeed strong and has skills, but let’s remember that steroids will not make a difference.
– Even if Rizvan takes something, I don’t believe it will help him to better reject his hips and defend his brings, or to take punches on the jaw.
