Dan Hooker pointed out the main reason for Alex Volkanovski’s loss in his clash with Islam Makhachev. The New Zealander believes that the fellow returned to the starting lineup too soon.

Alexander Volkanovski will return to the octagon on Saturday, April 12. The former champion will face the chance to regain his belt in a clash with the talented Diego Lopes. In connection with the fight of the evening of the UFC 314 gala, Dan Hooker appeared in the studio of the New Zealand branch of Sky Sports, where he had the opportunity to announce the aforementioned bout.

During the interview, Hooker thought back to Alex Volkanovsky’s losses. Among other things, Hangman commented on Volkanovski’s defeat to Ilia Topuria. According to Dan Hooker, his clubmate simply returned to the UFC octagon too quickly at the time.

– I feel that he just came back too soon after the fight with Islam Makhachev. I don’t think Ilia Topuria did anything that amazing. He just fought too fast.

Dan mentioned that he himself had such situations in the past, which eventually ended in a series of losses for him. The Auckland fighter was referring to the fact that he fought two tough five-round battles, after which he should definitely take longer to rest and heal. In the end, however, after the clash with Poirier, he started preparing for a battle with Chandler which ended badly.

– I was in a similar situation. I fought Paul Felder, then Dustin Poirier almost on the march, and then I immediately threw myself at Michael Chandler. It’s not that Michael Chandler did something absolutely outstanding at the time. This is what every experienced fighter learns, but unfortunately the only way to learn is through suffering.

Dan Hooker has confirmed that he is heading to Miami for the UFC 314 gala. The New Zealander intends to support the former featherweight champion from the stands.

– Yes, I’m flying there. I’m almost sure that Israel [Adesanya] is also flying. Of course, we will support Alexander Volkanovski. Ten consecutive championship fights in a row. Lopes is a young, dangerous opponent. It’s going to be an amazing fight and I can’t wait to sit at the cage and soak up the atmosphere.

Dan Hooker currently as a decidedly more experienced fighter has begun to learn from his earlier mistakes. The City Kickboxing representative suffered an injury while preparing for his fight with Justin Gaethje and immediately decided to undergo surgery and withdraw from the clash. Hooker knows that being ranked sixth, he cannot afford to slip up and go into the fight being out of shape.
