Dana White commented on the eagerness of Islam Makhachev, who said he could fight Dricus Du Plessis in the middleweight division.
Islam Makhachev is the champion of the UFC organization in the lightweight category. The Dagestanian has increasingly mentioned the lack of challenges in his division and is more willing to look to higher weight classes. Makhachev told reporters in a recent statement that he could move higher and stay longer in the welterweight category, where he sees many interesting rivals for himself.
Tongue-pulling Islam at one point said he was even ready to compete in the middleweight category. Makhachev openly said that if he gets a contract to fight Dricus Du Plessis he will make such a fight. Dana White, head of the UFC organization commented on Islam Makhachev‘s eagerness.
– Would he move to the middle category? I don’t see it, I don’t know. Listen, if he wanted to perform in the welterweight category then we can talk, but fighting in the division up to 84 kilograms is a game on a completely different level.
The UFC chief is not interested in moving Islam two divisions higher. This is not surprising, by the way, as Makhachev measures less than 180 cm in height and doesn’t have much of a reach. The top fighters in the up to 84 kilogram category are definitely taller, have an arm range in the 193-203 cm range and many times weigh over 100 kilograms on a daily basis.
