Dricus Du Plessis has named his next opponent in the UFC. The middleweight champion wants to defend his belt in a fight against Khamzat Chimaev.
Dricus Du Plessis followed with interest the actions of the top middleweights at the UFC 308 gala. The African watched the duel between Robert Whittaker and Khamzat Chimaev and quickly drew the appropriate conclusions.
The UFC middleweight champion was a guest on the RadioRaps program, where hosts quiz fighters over pints of golden ale. Du Plessis was asked who he wants to face in his next defense of the championship belt. “Stillknocks” replied.
– We all knew that if something amazing happened during Rob’s fight with Khamzat then there could be a change in the championship fight. Nothing has been confirmed yet, however, both as a fan of the sport and as a world champion of the middleweight category, this is the fight that excites me more. I want to “take away” zero in his record. I have already beaten Strickland and I know I can do it again. The fight with Khamzat excites me.
Du Plessis continued his statement by saying that not only does he want such a fight, but the fans expect just that.
– The whole world wants to see it. Let’s remember that it is the fans who pay for the tickets and for access to the broadcast. So if the fans want this fight, it should be my next fight. I for one am 100% interested in a clash with Khamzat. The UFC will do what they think is right. I, from my perspective, as well as from a fan’s perspective, think that Chimaev should be a contender.
