Dricus Du Plessis suffered an injury while sparring and as a result will not face Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 317.

Dricus Du Plessis was scheduled to defend his middleweight championship belt at the end of June. Unfortunately, the African suffered an injury while sparring and will not be able to recover fast enough to appear at UFC 317.

Du Plessis’ injury was reported by journalist Kevin Iole, who did not convey how long the South African representative’s break would last. Du Plessis was scheduled to face Khamzat Chimaev, and presumably the future of this duel will depend precisely on the nature of Dricus’ injury.

Chimaev has already managed to react to the bad news by sticking a pin in Dricus.

If Du Plessis has to undergo surgery and will be ruled out of competition for an extended period of time then it is likely that the UFC organization will decide to put together a bout for the interim championship belt.
