Dricus Du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev will face each other in the main event of UFC 319. The clash for the middleweight category belt will take place on August 16 in Chicago.
The UFC organization has announced a big fight in which Dricus Du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev will meet. The fight between the South African representative and the undefeated wrestler from Chechnya will take place on August 16 at UFC 319. The Du Plessis vs Chimaev clash has been contracted for five rounds, and the middleweight division championship belt held by the African will be at stake.
When the UFC organization announced Dana White’s live special, fans expected only announcements related to the UFC 317 gala and smaller events planned for July. However, the UFC president surprised fans by announcing the highly anticipated fight for the belt of the up to 84 kilogram division.
Dricus Du Plessis has a series of eleven wins in a row. The excellent “Stillknocks” reached for the championship belt by defeating Sean Strickland. Du Plessis then defended his title in a skirmish with Israel Adesanya and gave a rematch to Strickland, whom he dominated in the second fight.
Khamzat Khimaev is undefeated in professional MMA and holds a streak of fourteen straight wins. The Beno-Yurt-born fighter has been representing the United Arab Emirates for some time which is probably related to his wealthy Dubai-based sponsors. “Borz” submitted Robert Whittaker in impressive fashion in his last fight.
The outcome of the Du Plessis vs Chimaev fight may have great significance for the further fate of the middleweight division. If the South African representative wins it is possible that he will decide to move to the welterweight division. Khamzat’s win, on the other hand, may reopen the category and make some interesting juxtapositions to be made.
