Dustin Poirier has proposed a tournament for the BMF belt. Dana White responded to Poirier’s suggestion of a one-day tournament in the UFC octagon.
Dustin Poirier was a guest on the MMA on SiriusXM podcast. During the visit, the former UFC lightweight belt contender talked about, among other things, his planned nose surgery, after which he won’t be able to spar for eight weeks. He also admitted that he still has enough energy in him to fight another 5-6 fights in the UFC, however, he does not intend to tire his body that much.
Poirier also conveyed that although he tried to persuade the UFC organization to visit his hometown of Lafayette it is unlikely that anything will come of it. However, it is possible that the best MMA league in the world will visit New Orleans in 2025.
Dustin Poirier has proposed a one-day tournament for the BMF belt. Diamond would like to see Justin Gaethje, Max Holloway and Dan Hooker participate as well. Given the impressive fighting styles of all of those mentioned it would be quite a treat for fans.
The UFC chief was asked about this possibility during a press conference. Here’s how Dana White responded:
– It sounds great. I never thought of that however, I like it.
Of the fighters mentioned by Poirier, only Max Holloway has another fight scheduled. The popular Hawaiian will face the chance to retake the featherweight title in the evening fight of the UFC 308 gala in Abu Dhabi.
Given the rules of the sports commissions, it seems impossible to organize a one-day tournament for the BMF belt in the UFC. It is possible that matchmakers will look at the situation and try to actually mix the names mentioned by Poirier in such a way that in the future there will be a final showdown for the belt of the biggest mother fvcker.
