Dustin Poirier and Max Holloway will face each other in the fight of the evening at UFC 318 in New Orleans. Diamond will end his career on July 19 with an appearance in a bout for the BMF belt.
Dustin Poirier has been announcing his last dance for a few months, and he has kept his word. The former UFC interim lightweight champion, and together former contender for the lightweight division belt and BMF belt will enter the octagon for the last time at the UFC 318 gala in New Orleans.
Dustin Poirier will take on Max Holloway in front of his home crowd, which will probably descend from all over Louisiana to cheer on Diamond. The American Top Team representative will close out the trilogy with the Hawaiian having two wins in this rivalry.
Max Holloway will return to the octagon after a failed attempt to return to the throne of the featherweight category. The former champion lost by knockout to Ilia Topuria. Blessed now wants to stay longer in the lightweight division to avoid a drastic weight cut.
At stake in Poirier’s third fight with Holloway will be the aforementioned BMF belt. Max reached for this title by knocking out Justin Gaethje. He later admittedly scored one loss, but Dana White was quick to clarify that the belt of the biggest contender was not on the line at the time.
It is worth noting that Dustin Poirier was Max Holloway’s first opponent in the UFC. Now history has come full circle and it will be Holloway who will be Dustin’s last opponent in his career.
