Surprisingly, news has emerged regarding who Dustin Poirier will face in his farewell fight.

Dustin Poirier had been announcing his retirement from the sport for quite some time. The popular Diamond has been fighting professionally since 2007, and at the age of 36 he decided that there was no point in dragging out his career indefinitely and risking his health.

Last month, Dustin relayed that work and talks are underway with the UFC to allow him to end his career at a gala in New Orleans. Poirier is from the state of Louisiana and would like to fight his last fight in front of his home crowd.

Now, unexpectedly, information about Poirier’s potential opponent in his farewell fight has surfaced. Beneil Dariush, during an interview with Submission Radio, revealed who Dustin is expected to fight.

– As far as I know Dustin Poirier and Max Holloway will fight. That’s what I’ve heard, I don’t know if they have signed contracts and if the agreements are certain, but that’s the news that has reached me.

Dustin Poirier and Max Holloway have faced each other twice, and each time Diamond prevailed. The American Top Team fighter submitted the Hawaiian by triangle in the first bout, and in the second fight defeated him after a judges’ decision.

Both Dustin Poirier and Max Holloway lost their last fights, so ranking-wise such a matchup makes a lot of sense, especially in the event of a win by Blessed. On the other hand, Holloway’s possible defeat, with Poirier’s simultaneous victory and termination, could open the door to the top five rankings for other, younger fighters.
