A few years ago he fought for the UFC interim belt now former contender Kevin Lee has expressed his willingness to fight in the Contender Series.
Kevin Lee’s career has not gone the way of the Detroit fighter. Lee, who faced a chance to win the UFC interim lightweight belt in 2017, has definitely fizzled out in recent years.
Kevin Lee bid farewell to the best MMA league in the world in the fall of 2021 when he lost his fourth of his last five fights. In 2022 he defeated Diego Sanchez in the Eagles FC organization, and then rather unexpectedly returned to the UFC octagon for one fight in July 2023. Kevin Lee lost by submission in the 55th second of the first round and was immediately released from his contract.
The fighter, who recently celebrated his 32nd birthday, is still relatively young and has several years of his career ahead of him. During an interview on Jon Anik and Kenny Florian’s podcast, the “Motown Phenom” admitted that he is eager to compete in Dana White’s Contender Series program to show his will to return to the UFC.
– My true love is MMA. I want to fight again and show how serious I am about it. I even told Sean Shelby that I’m ready to appear in Dana White’s Contender Series to show how important it is for me to fight at the highest level again. My next fight will not be for the money, but for the opportunity to prove that my body and myself can continue to do well.
Regardless of whether Dana White and company will give Kevin a chance, you have to admit that this is a very interesting idea. It is a bit reminiscent of the situation in which UFC veterans have attempted a comeback by participating in The Ultimate Fighter tv show.
