Ian Garry is severely disappointed by the decision of the UFC organization. The Irishman wanted to replace the injured Shavkat Rakhmonov in a clash with Belal Muhammad at UFC 315.
Ian Machado Garry is ranked seventh in the UFC‘s welterweight rankings. However, without looking at the Irishman’s position itself, it is important to remember his good disposition and his balanced duel with Shavkat Rakhmonov.
Garry caused the Kazakh a lot of problems at the time, but eventually lost to Nomad after a unanimous judges’ decision. The talented 27-year-old wanted to take the opportunity to replace the injured Rakhmonov in a championship bout against Belal Muhammad at UFC 315 in Montreal.
This will not happen, however, as Jack Della Maddalena has jumped in to replace Rakhmonov. Garry’s Ian Machado admitted that he was furious when he found out about it.
– I spoke to my agent. I called him right after I got the information about who was fighting for the belt. I was furious, I’m disappointed until now.
– I had a fight for number 1 contender status with a fighter who now has to undergo ligament reconstruction and will not fight for a year. But of course it’s not my fault, I’m not the one who dug his leg in that way. I’m not fighting for the world title because I minimally lost on points, so they gave this fight to a guy who hasn’t fought in a year. In the UFC they think this is more exciting, in my opinion they are wrong.
Ian Garry disappointed with UFC decision
Garry pointed out that Shavkat Rakhmonov was replaced by Jack Della Maddalena, who, although he was scheduled to appear on March 22 at a gala in London, has not fought a fight since March 2024. The Irishman also mentioned the Australian’s injury and surgery.
– Once again, I will say that the fight for the belt was awarded to Shavkat Rakhmonov, who was supposed to face Belal Muhammad. However, he is injured, how did this happen? (Garry presented a photo in which he dug around the knee of the Kazakh during the fight). They took in a guy who hadn’t fought in a year because he had forearm surgery after the injury he suffered in the fight. He didn’t fight for a long time and wasn’t active. Jack Della Maddalena got a fight with Belal Muhammad after something like that.
After a series of bitter words, Ian finally announced the perfect date for his return. Machado Garry wants to re-enter the octagon at UFC 317 during International Fight Week.
– I want to come back on June 28 at International Fight Week, I don’t care who they put in front of me. I just want to fight a fight and prove that I am the best in the world.
