Jai Opetaia powerfully knocked out David Nyika in the evening fight of the gala in Broadbeach, Australia thanks to which he defended his IBF cruiser championship belt.
Jai Opetaia once again performed phenomenally in the boxing ring. The Australian fought in front of his own audience against David Nyika. The fighters faced each other at Broadbeach in the Goldcoast, and the IBF Federation championship belt in the cruiserweight division was at stake.
The two undefeated players treated the fans gathered in the hall with great excitement that they will probably remember for years to come. New Zealand’s Nyika, a bronze medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, surprised by going toe-to-toe with Opetaia.
In the fourth round, Jai Opetaia hit with a right uppercut, after which David Nyika was counted out. The referee allowed the fight to resume, however, Opetaia was ruthless and first stung his rival with a straight, then unleashed his hands and delivered two powerful bombs, after which Nyika was on the ropes. Jai Opetaia only waited for this and struck with a left, after which Nyika collapsed inertly to the boards.
After the fight, Jai Opetaia showed great respect to his rival. The IBF world champion addressed David Nyika in the following words.
– First of all, I thank my rival, who accepted the fight three weeks in advance. He came here to fight and gave me a difficult fight. I respect that. I expected him to want to box, to play boxing chess, meanwhile he went to open exchanges with me. He wanted to take the belts from me, he took up the gauntlet and he should be respected for that. So David, hats off to you.
