Jan Blachowicz has spoken openly about his future in the UFC. The former welterweight champion makes no secret of the fact that he still dreams of regaining his belt, but at the same time is well aware of the limitations of his age and health problems.
“The Prince of Cieszyn” was a guest of Krzysztof Stanowski on Channel Zero, where he gave an extensive interview. Among other topics, the Pole touched on his future career, his comeback from injuries and his plans for his final years of appearances in the UFC octagon.
Blachowicz admitted that despite his immense motivation, it will be increasingly difficult for him to return to the top of the welterweight category. However, the fighter does not intend to lay down his arms just yet.
Blachowicz: “PESEL won’t let go”.
The former UFC champion candidly admitted that age is beginning to play an increasingly important role in his career. Nonetheless, he still believes he can still mix it up at the top of the division.
– Dreams are some, but PESEL will not let go. It would be nice to try to fight for the belt again and get it back. That would be a wonderful scenario, but let’s not kid ourselves, 43 years old. I’m probably the ranked oldest fighter in the UFC, so it’s hard, but it’s also realistic, because I’m number four, so one, two and who knows? – Blachowicz said.
Behind Jan a very difficult period related to health. The Pole has undergone several major surgeries, and physical problems regularly hamper his preparations for fights. It was due to injury that he had to withdraw from his planned rematch with Bogdan Guskov.
Krzysztof Stanowski asked the former UFC champion if he was still returning to the octagon for more than just another payday. Blachowicz’s answer was very specific.
– In order to end this adventure my way. Not that I’ll end it with some knee injury, but I’ll end it when I say it’s over, not that I’ll shoot something or someone will say from the sidelines: Janek, end.
“The Prince of Cieszyn” was also asked about how many fights he realistically sees still ahead of him. Here, too, he did not try to color the reality.
– One for sure, then we’ll see.
Although Blachowicz is already one of the most experienced fighters in the entire UFC, he still remains high in the welterweight category rankings. If his health allows him to return to full form, it is possible that the Pole will once again try to join the fight for the championship belt.
