Jan Błachowicz spoke out following the latest changes in the UFC light heavyweight division. The organization’s former champion addressed the situation that has prevented his rematch with Bogdan Guskov from taking place for the second time. He also revealed that he himself had been considered as a new opponent for Magomed Ankalaev.
Jan Błachowicz’s first bout against Bogdan Guskov ended in a draw, which left both the fans and the fighters themselves feeling somewhat unsatisfied. The rematch was supposed to take place a few months ago—the contracts had been signed, and both fighters had begun training—but the Pole’s injury derailed those plans. The UFC has once again scheduled a bout between the two, but it looks like the fight won’t happen this time either.
“First, they offered me the fight”
The organization had planned for Błachowicz and Guskov to face off on August 1 at the UFC Serbia event in Belgrade. However, everything changed after Khalil Rountree suffered an injury and was forced to withdraw from the main event of UFC Abu Dhabi. The UFC immediately began searching for a replacement for Magomed Ankalaev.
In the end, Bogdan Guskov was chosen, but—as Jan Błachowicz revealed—he was the one who received the initial offer. The “Prince of Cieszyn,” who is currently training intensively under the guidance of Maciej Miszkin, described the entire situation on social media.
– A quick update on my situation. The UFC offered me a fight against Ankalaev, but I wasn’t sure if I could make weight on such short notice. A few hours later, I contacted the UFC to let them know I’d be ready to fight without needing a catchweight, but they’d already reached an agreement with Guskov,” wrote “The Prince of Cieszyn.”
As a result, Guskov has been given the biggest opportunity of his career so far, and on July 25, he will face Magomed Ankalaev in the main event of the card in Abu Dhabi. For Błachowicz, however, this means he will have to wait for his next matchup.
– So now I’m waiting for my new opponent for the UFC Serbia event.
Everything seems to indicate that the UFC still wants to see Błachowicz in action at the event in Belgrade. However, fans will have to wait a little longer for the official announcement of the former light heavyweight champion’s new opponent.
