Jiri Prochazka has in the past thought about moving down to the middleweight category it turns out that the Czech has good reasons to do so, as he was at a surprisingly low weight on the day of the UFC 311 gala.
Jiri Prochazka performed superbly at the UFC 311 gala in Los Angeles. The former UFC welterweight champion knocked out Jamahal Hill in impressive fashion and cemented his status as a top contender for the championship title.
The California State Athletic Commission has released data on the weight of the fighters on the day of the gala. Extremely interesting statistics were presented, thanks to which we can see how much the fighters have gained from the moment of weigh-in to a few hours before the fight.
Jiri Prochazka weighed 204.5 pounds and filled the limit at the weigh-in. By contrast, on the day of the UFC 311 gala, the Czech weighed just 208.2 pounds, or 94.4 kg. This is therefore just over the welterweight category limit. One can even assume that if Prochazka had eaten a little less he would still have filled the 206-pound limit applicable to fights in the welterweight division, which are not championship-ranked clashes.
Among the other fighters who recorded victories, the result of Jailton Almeida, who weighed less on the day of the gala than at the weigh-in, was surprising. However, it should be remembered that the Brazilian is a heavyweight fighter, so he doesn’t have to be particularly careful with his weight.
Traditionally, it was also confirmed that it is the fighters in the lowest weight categories who gain the most weight from the weigh-in to the day of the fight. As for the participants of the two championship fights, these ones gained between 15 and 17% in weight, which, of course, were the highest results.
Returning to Jiri Prochazka, it is possible that if he does not get the chance to fight for the belt of the category up to 93 kilograms again, he will make a decision to descend to the middle category, for which he would undoubtedly be an interesting addition.
