Joe Rogan commentator on the galas of the world’s best MMA league has presented the UFC owner with a plan to eliminate the process of weight cut.
MMA fighters for years have had to go through the arduous and debilitating process of weight cutting in the final days before a fight. The main task during this time is a severely restricted diet and the evaporation of water from the body. Unfortunately, this often leads to extreme dehydration and unpleasant consequences.
Joe Rogan commentator of UFC galas in one of his podcasts presented a plan that would help eliminate weight cutting. Rogan is in favor of fighters fighting in their natural weight classes, and broke the news all to Ari Emanuel, one of the UFC’s main owners.
– I think weight gain should be eliminated. I said this to the new owner Ari Emanuel when he bought the UFC: “Look you know what you should do? Ban weight cutting, just end it.”
Joe Rogan believes that one way was also to verify the weight of fighters during preparation camps. The American suggested that the introduction of unannounced inspections and the introduction of more divisions would make it easier to move away from torturous dehydration.
– If you can test athletes for anabolic agents then why not test their weight? Show up suddenly with a scale, have him stand on it and say, “You weigh 190 pounds? How the f**k are you fighting in the featherweight category?”.
– You need to introduce something like that and add weight categories, there should be more of them, certainly there shouldn’t be this 20-pound gap between 185 and 205. That’s too much. The categories should be in 10-pound increments. 185, 195, 205, above that you can add 225, and then do heavyweight with no upper limit.
Rogan pointed out that it would be best to verify how much Islam Makhachev, considered the best fighter in the world without weight class division, weighs on a daily basis. Once the Dagestanian’s weight is verified, from then on he would fight in the division in whose limit he “fit”.
– You have to take Islam Makhachev, he is now the world champion, he is the best P4P fighter. You need to check his weight and see. If he weighs 185-190 pounds then he should be fighting in that category now. Just put an end to all this weight cutting, dehydration, and then a day for rehydration. Let the fighters finally start fighting opponents of their own size. This will make the fights more interesting and dynamic because no one will be exhausted after making weight.
Joe Rogan believes that the fights can gain in dynamics, and the fighters will perform better in terms of conditioning. So far, the UFC organization has not adapted to the changes suggested by the commentator, perhaps in time the fighters themselves will favor such a solution.
