Jorge Masvidal wants to return to the UFC octagon, and the ideal opponent for him is Leon Edwards. The American believes that a win over the former champion will give him a fight for the belt.
Jorge Masvidal fought his last fight in the UFC organization in April 2023. At that time, the Miami fighter lost to Gilbert Burns in the co-main event of the UFC 287 gala. After that, Masvidal did not fight for a long time, until he finally fought a boxing match with Nat Diaz. Jorge to this day still disagrees with the judges’ verdict. Masvidal lost to Nat after a majority decision by the judges, which he openly called a robbery.
In recent weeks, Masvidal has expressed his desire to return to the octagon of the UFC organization. In a recent interview with ESPN, Jorge hinted at an opponent for the fight. Masvidal is aiming very high and wants a clash with Leon Edwards.
– Give me a f**king Leon Edwards. What can we call him today? A veteran, a former champion? Doesn’t matter. Give me the type. We already have a history in the UFC. All the promotion is ready. Let’s make the fight at the end of the year or next year. And once I knock him out, they’ll have to give me a fight for the belt.
The fighters have a shared history. During one UFC event in England, a backstage brawl ensued between the two. Masvidal later repeatedly demanded a skirmish with Edwards. While at this point athletically it might not be the fight that Leon’s fans expect, medially it would undoubtedly be a great fight that would sell well.
