Josh Thomson and Big John McCarthy criticized Arman Tsarukyan for turning down a rematch fight with Mateusz Gamrot, which was supposed to happen in Abu Dhabi in the summer.
Josh Thomson a veteran of UFC, Pride, Strikeforce and Bellator organizations and Big John McCarthy, a former referee currently working as a TV expert and commentator addressed Arman Tsarukyan ‘s decision to reject a rematch bout with Mateusz Gamrot.
It didn’t take long for the MMA world to react to Arman Tsarukyan’s behavior. Josh Thomson and John McCarthy commented extensively on the decision of the top lightweight fighter on the Weighing In podcast.
Josh Thomson and Big John McCarthy criticize Tsarukyan
The former fighter, who was the Strikeforce organization’s lightweight champion, was the first to mention it, in addition to scoring starts in all the leading MMA organizations of the time.
– Well here’s the news Arman Tsarukyan is turning down fights after what he did last time, pulling out of a 2 a.m. fight basically by not making weight. But that’s not the point. He’s had career failures, one of them being a loss to Gamrot. You’re not even a champion, and you’re turning down fights. You know Dana White was not happy with you before, and now you do something like this. Correct me John if I’m wrong, but the UFC is now in such a position that they can just tell him to drop and fight somewhere else. It’s a similar situation as with Mokaev, also a great fighter, but they didn’t want to work with him anymore.
Former referee Big John McCarthy echoed Thomson and also gave a negative assessment of Arman and his team’s decision.
– I’ll say it as nicely as I can, whoever runs Arman’s business and represents him in this business simply has to change his approach. He is making mistake after mistake. You are putting yourself and the fighter in such a position that the UFC people may no longer want to work with you. The organization invested millions of dollars in promoting a fight with Makhachev, from which you withdrew, through your own fault, at the last minute, and now you reject the duel?
– Listen you are about to land on the bench, the UFC has the ability to make such a move. Let me tell you this, you are young, you are a fantastic fighter you are 28 years old. They will bench you before you are 29. And this is the moment of your career where you should be fighting, you should be showing people that they need you, make them want to watch you.
It is clear that even people in the industry have taken an unfavorable view of Tsarukyan’s behavior. After all, everyone remembers the disastrous conditions of Arman’s withdrawal from the championship bout with Islam Makhachev at UFC 311 in Los Angeles.
