Justin Gaethje eager to fight Makhachev in June

Justin Gaethje has expressed his desire to fight Islam Makhachev in June. The American is awaiting a call from the UFC.

Justin Gaethje is vying for a chance to fight for the UFC lightweight championship belt. The American very much wants to face Islam Makhachev, the current dominator of the up to 70 kilograms division. Gaethje is counting on the Dagestanian not to change to a higher category just yet.

Although there were recent rumors that Makhachev had decided to wait for the Belal Muhammad vs Jack Della Maddalena duel to be decided, manager Ali Abdelaziz quickly dismissed them. This means that Justin Gaethje can optimistically demand a duel with Islam, especially since Javier Mendez, the champion’s trainer, has stated that this is the best possible matchup.

Justin Gaethje eager to fight Makhachev

Justin Gaethje gave an interview to The Schmo where he declared his accession to fight Islam in June, preferably at the UFC 317 gala.

– I’m ready, I’m willing to fight in June. I don’t know, I really think Makhachev said he wants to fight in June. I hope I get a call sooner rather than later, because of course I’m training however I’m not at the beginning of my career, rather I’m nearing the end of this crazy MMA adventure.

Justin Gaethje mentioned his recent achievements, and also mentioned the names of other contenders. According to the American, there is no chance towards Arman Tsarukyan being the one to get a chance again after what happened last time.

– My balance is 4-1 in my last five fights. There is Charles Oliveira, who has already lost to Islam once. There is Arman Tsarukyan, but he gave a body and I don’t think they will give him a fight for the belt now. Then there’s Topuria, I see a chance towards him getting a fight for the belt, but we’ll see.

– I hope that the UFC officials will call me, that they will take into account my numbers and what kind of fighter I am. Other than that, I don’t really think about it.

Ultimately, Gaethje indicated that he was waiting for key UFC officials to dial his phone number and contact him about the championship fight.
