Justin Gaethje addressed a potential trilogy with Dustin Poirier at a post-UFC 313 press conference.

Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier have faced each other twice so far in the UFC octagon. In the first bout Poirier was the upper hand, sending Gaethje to the boards in the fourth round. In the second clash, the Colorado-trained fighter was the upper hand, knocking out Poirier with a beautiful high kick.

Justin Gaethje fought at the UFC 313 gala in Las Vegas over the weekend. The American scored a valuable win in a rematch with Rafael Fiziev. After that win, reporters asked Gaethje if his next opponent could be Dustin Poirier.

Justin commented on a potential trilogy with Dustin Poirier. The leading fighter of the lightweight division is not interested in this matchup at the moment.

– I think our families would not like that. Our balance is 1-1 and I feel okay with that. If he does too, it doesn’t make sense.

– I think we will become contenders for the belt as we defeat other fighters. If I beat him I don’t think it will bring either of us closer to the belt.

Justin Gaethje says that a potential fight with Islam Makhachev will be a completely different clash than the rematch with Rafael Fiziev. Even after his win over Ataman, the American refused to break his diet while celebrating his success.

– I don’t know what awaits me in the next fight, we’ll see. Of course I would like to fight for the belt however, it is a completely different fight from the one I fought today. They wanted to give me a donut, but I have to get back to running if I want to beat Islam Makhachev.
