Kamaru Usman believes that just one win will get him a fight for the belt, the Nigerian considered the biggest star of the welterweight division.

Kamaru Usman in the Pound 4 Pound podcast commented on the situation in the welterweight category. The former UFC champion criticized Belal Muhammad, claiming that he has not defended the belt enough times. Usman referred to Muhammad’s idea of changing the division to a higher one.

– If Belal wants to enter the middle and fight DDP then he must vacate the belt. Who cares about him? He hasn’t cleared the division enough to say, “Hey, I want to be a double champion.” Nobody cares, and I’m not trying to be a hater or say something negative about him. If he wants to do it – he can, but there are a lot of contenders.

Kamaru Usman appreciated the fact that currently the up to 77 kilograms division is filled with great contenders who can confidently be considered the next generation of MMA fighters.

– We have JDM, Sean Brady, Joaquin Buckley, Ian Garry, if he returns to the winning path. Don’t forget Geoff Neal. We have Carlos Prates, who is growing in stature. There are a whole bunch of contenders, and you Belal has not cleared the division.

Kamaru Usman says one win will give him a renewed chance to fight for the welterweight championship belt. The Nigerian believes in the power and popularity of his name.

– Where is my place in all this? Of all the guys I just mentioned, I’m the one with the most famous name. I am the biggest star among them all. I’m still in the top three of the division.

– If I go in there and beat someone, from the perspective of the organization, from my perspective, from the perspective of the champion, whoever will not be the champion then. I think we all know who will be the right candidate to fight for the title.
