The head of KSW doesn’t have a very good opinion of Oktagon MMA. Martin Lewandowski claims that the Czech-Slovak organization is following the path of others and copying what works.

The record-breaking Oktagon 62 gala took place yesterday in Frankfurt, with more than 58,000 tickets sold for the event. The Czech-Slovak organization Oktagon MMA thus broke the European attendance record, which until now belonged to KSW.

Martin Lewandowski gave an interview to isport.tv and during this conversation he did not speak warmly of the competition. The KSW chief said that Oktagon MMA does not inspire him because it copies the ideas of other organizations:

I am not inspired by the Oktagon. The truth is that they copy everything that was done in KSW or other organizations. I don’t see anything new. I don’t see anything to which I would react in a “wow” style. They just follow the path of others.

If you think back to that time when we started, 20 years ago, MMA was completely unknown to the public then. People didn’t know what MMA was. What is it? We had to explain that it was a sport. So we had to spend a good ten years explaining to people what it even was.

KSW boss on Octagon MMA

The KSW boss stuck a pin in his rivals from across the ring. Lewandowski mentioned that the evening fight of the Oktagon 62 gala will feature Christian Eckerlin, who has fought in KSW in the past. During the event at the Eintracht Stadium, other fighters known from KSW also entered the cage: Daniel Torres, Antun Racić, and Patrik Kincl.

They are now using the guy we broke the contract with. So there is nothing new or anything unpredictable here. There is nothing new from their side. We have been talking about Germany for years. We are simply waiting for the right moment.

Martin Lewandowski says there is no rivalry between KSW and the Oktagon. The KSW chief wishes the competition well, however, he points out that there is room in the Czech Republic and Slovakia for galas of three or even four organizations.

I don’t feel that we should compete with them, because our experience as KSW organization, everything we have accomplished, is much greater than what the Oktagon will achieve. Of course I wish them all the best. I really do. I want to say that I didn’t come here to compete with them. We didn’t come here because of the Oktagon, we came because we know that people from the Czech Republic and Slovakia are very interested in MMA. I don’t want to war with anyone, because we have enough fights in our internal environment. They are the ones who want to compete. They are the ones who want to fight, so… I wish them the best. There is room for not just two organizations in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, but at least three, maybe four.
