The KSW chief talked about Robert Ruchala’s contract negotiations with Joanna Jedrzejczyk, the former UFC champion who became the fighter’s manager.
Robert Ruchala was KSW‘s interim featherweight champion. The fighter decided to follow his dreams and decided it was high time to move overseas. Before Ruchała made his final decision, Joanna Jedrzejczyk negotiated a new contract with the KSW federation on his behalf.
Martin Lewandowski head of the KSW federation talked about these negotiations in an interview with Hubert Mściwujewski of MMA BNB. The co-owner of Europe’s top MMA organization revealed the backstory and Jedrzejczyk’s financial expectations during the contract talks.
– We negotiated. We raised the salary by 100%, that’s just for your information. So if someone comes in and has demands on a “times 200” basis, we say: where did you get off, get off? Or: how do you imagine that? Because we are in a slightly different level and in a different place of MMA in the world in general.
– I understand that maybe in the States such… Although no, there are no such increases. Unless you’re Conor, who does some amazing thing. And we are also able to pay very big money.
This is not the first time that the KSW chief has indicated that, as managers of the federation, they have to set an upper financial limit they can offer a fighter. This time was no different.
– On the other hand, we simply have our price list, so in quotes “contractual price list”, how much Robert was worth, how much we can give. As I say, it was outbid one hundred percent. If someone still wants to negotiate and thinks it’s not fair, then to some sense of this manager, manager I refer. Because 100% is probably a good raise, don’t you think?
Ultimately, the talks stalled, and eventually Robert Ruchała appeared at the federation’s office with Joanna Jedrzejczyk and, after a meeting with Maciej Kawulski and Wojslaw Rysiewski, announced his departure to the UFC.
