KSW sports director Wojslaw Rysiewski believes that Oktagon MMA’s contracting of Michal Materla is not enough to satisfy Polish fans.
The echoes of Michal Materla ‘s contracting by the Oktagon MMA organization are not silent. Indeed, not much after the announcement of the contract itself, the Czech-Slovak comity announced its first event in Poland, which will take place in April 2026 in Szczecin, Poland.
For Michal Materla it will be an opportunity to perform in front of his own audience. It has been known for a long time that the former KSW champion is not allowed to fight under MMA rules, and Ondrej Novotny one of the two owners of the Oktagon even said that most likely the Berserker will fight a boxing bout.
This means that Materla has tied up with a federation from across our southern border for a bout similar to the one he fought earlier in FAME MMA.
The KSW sports director commented in an interview with Patryk Prokulski on TVP Sport.
– I have the impression that not everyone is aware of this. On the other hand, also Oktagon will not write “not MMA” on the graphics announcing Michal. I realize that this will not be the first information they will give.
Wojslaw Rysiewski stressed that the mere involvement of Michal Materla is not enough for the Oktagon MMA organization to conquer the Polish market. The KSW sporting director also drew attention to the latest event of the Czech-Slovak organization, in which the fight card was not thrilling.
– As I see the reception is that Michal Materla is not enough. I have this conviction that Polish fans are very demanding are a bit capricious. I think we realize that Michal, in a situation where he can’t fight in MMA, his team’s expectations of us were that he should get rivals of, let’s say, age, level, well a little bit in the climate of Kendall Grove, not Piotrek Kuberski.
– How would the fans (in Szczecin) react to a gala like Oktagon had now in Brno? Where, apart from the fight of the evening, where the champion hasn’t made weight yet, I don’t know if anyone is able to name any fights interesting for a Polish fan. I also don’t want to hector too much because Oktagon is a good organization, doing a great job while I have the impression that the Polish fan has much higher expectations than the Czech or German.
The next KSW gala will take place on Saturday, November 15. The KSW 112 event will take place right in Szczecin, the city of Michal Materla.
