The list of potential rivals for Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 310 is shrinking. Leon Edwards, former UFC champion, confirmed today a break due to injury.
Last week, Belal Muhammad pulled out of his championship fight with Shavkat Rakhmonov. The clash was scheduled to take place on December 7 at UFC 310 in Las Vegas. The Kazakhstan fighter’s manager confirmed that talks are underway with the UFC for Shavkat to remain on the event’s schedule and fight a bout for the interim belt.
Unfortunately, the list of Rakhmonov’s potential rivals is shrinking. The bad news was delivered by Leon Edwards, former champion of the up to 77 kilogram category. The Englishman, in an interview with talkSPORT, said that he will not return to action until late March/early April at a gala in the British Isles at the earliest. Leon Edwards suffered a back injury and is currently undergoing rehabilitation.
The champion and former champion are unavailable. Rakhmonov is therefore left with either Kamaru Usman, who is one position higher in the ranking than the Kazakh. Alternatively, Shavkat must look behind him, and here unexpectedly there was a small change in the ranking.
Sean Brady unexpectedly, without putting up a fight, advanced to the fourth place, which he holds ex aequo with Jack Della Maddalena. Perhaps the American will be the opponent of the undefeated fighter from Kazakhstan. It is possible, however, that this is the UFC building ground for Brady’s juxtaposition with Maddalena at UFC 312 in Sydney.
