Leon Edwards has admitted that he has negotiated a rematch fight with Belal Muhammad at UFC 315 in Montreal.
Leon Edwards will appear in the evening fight of the UFC gala in London. This event will take place on Saturday, March 22, and the Englishman’s opponent will be Sean Brady. Originally, Edwards was scheduled to face Jack Della Maddalena, however, the latter was moved to a championship bout with Belal Muhammad at UFC 315.
Leon Edwards, in the latest episode of his vlog, talked about the backstory of the whole affair. It turns out that the former UFC welterweight champion was hoping for a rematch with Belal Muhammad and was in talks with matchmakers about it.
– I found out about the replacement a few weeks before it was officially announced. I was in talks with the UFC, and I was ready to jump into the fight with Belal Muhammad. However, I knew it would be hard to do so, as the fight card for the London gala was built around my name and it would be hard to leave Jack out of the evening’s fight.
– So we got a new opponent, which is Sean Brady. I am used to opponents who fight in such a style as the American. I am comfortable with such rivals in the octagon, so I am looking forward to this duel. Everything should be ok.
Leon Edwards also addressed changes in the championship fight. Rocky expects that there may be a new split in the up to 77 kilograms division, and even if not he is still hoping for a rematch with Belal.
– It seems to me that Jack jumping into the championship fight has made the division even more open. If he wins against Muhammad and I win my clash then we can face each other. And even if Belal wins the rematch is still in play. Matchmakers have told me that I am participating in the fight for number one contender status. Whoever wins will fight for the belt.
