Magomed Ankalaev and Alex Pereira will face each other in the main event of UFC 320 in Las Vegas. The rematch clash for the welterweight division belt will take place on October 4.
Magomed Ankalaev has learned the date of his first defense of the UFC welterweight championship belt. The Dagestanian will face Alex Pereira for the second time, i.e. the fighter he took the championship trophy from in March at UFC 313. Ankalaev’s rematch with Pereira will take place on October 4 in the evening fight of the UFC 320 gala in Las Vegas.
Alex Pereira will therefore once again appear in a championship fight which has been the norm for the Brazilian in recent years. Poatan first won the middleweight division title and then conquered the welterweight category. In recent days it seemed that the 38-year-old fighter might also move for the royal division title, but for the time being he will try to regain the belt of the up to 93 kilogram category.
Magomed Ankalaev showed his mettle in the first fight between the two fighters and surprisingly did well in the stand-up, where he had arguments on his side and hurt Pereira several times. The Dagestanian has been threatening on the Internet in recent weeks, claiming that there are no takers to fight him and he is ready to fight anyone.
In the end, the matchmakers and Dana White, seeing no other suitable contender, decided that the best option would simply be to put together a rematch. This will lose out to Carlos Ulberg, who was left out of the juxtaposition between the top names on the roster. After all, UFC 320 will also feature a Prochazka vs Rountree fight.
