Mamed Khalidov explained why he decided to turn down the fight with Piotr Kuberski at the KSW 100 gala in Gliwice.
Mamed Khalidov will return to the KSW federation cage at the KSW 100th anniversary gala in Gliwice. Khalidov will fight a superfight against Adrian Bartosinski. Mamed commented on all the rival proposals he has received from KSW owners. The former champion of Europe’s top MMA organization, during a visit to the Klatka po Klatka program, explained the reason for rejecting the duel with Piotr Kuberski.
Khalidov explained that the possibility of a fight for the interim belt against “Qbear” has arisen. According to the Arrachion Olsztyn fighter, this is not something that interests him at the moment. Mamed stressed that in the past he would have agreed to this fight and apologized to Piotr Kuberski.
– Because this fight was for an interim belt. I repeat myself again. Yes, if I was twenty-something years old, thirty-something years old even, I would have had the time to do it. Piotr, I’m very sorry, I would have agreed to it then (in my youth). Today I don’t have that time. I’m 44 years old. A temporary belt? I want to fight for the belt right away. For the right belt.
Mamed Khalidov also explained why he did not decide to fight Gegard Mousasi or Rafal Haratyk. The legendary fighter briefly explained the situation, suggesting that the former Bellator champion had contractual turmoil.
– There was a proposal there, but there some problems were with the contract. There, in general, there were problems with communication, that he did not speak and so on. Those things that are unlikely, there are doubts, then one does not go into such a thing. It will be, it won’t be, it will be, it won’t be. There is a risk.
As for the current KSW lightheavyweight champion, Khalidov stressed that although Haratyk won the tournament and won the belt he has not yet stabilized his situation in the federation and has no defenses to his credit. Above that, Mamed stressed the difference in size.
– It is important to understand that I know my strengths. My strengths are speed. As I am heavier, I am not fast. Fighting a horse like Haratyk, I will weigh 92-93 kg max for the fight, underweight. And with that underweight, being too big, I’m taking away advantages from myself. Haratyk has only just entered as a champion. I’m not belittling anyone, because Haratyk is an excellent fighter. He won the belt in the tournament. But still for me athletically Pawlak or there Bartos stand higher, they have been in KSW for a long time and they have a number of defenses. But that’s the second thing, and the first is that it’s not my weight.
