Marcus Buchecha Almeida submitted Amir Aliakbari in the first round of their fight at ONE 169 in Bangkok.
Marcus Almeida has returned to competing in MMA after a break of more than a year. The popular Buchecha is a multi-medalist in grappling events, who decided to start a career in professional MMA and signed a contract with the ONE organization. Almeida, like many of the world’s top fighters, represents the American Top Team club.
Buchecha faced Amir Aliakbari, an Iranian wrestler well known for his performances in the Rizin and ACA organizations, at ONE 169. The 37-year-old Aliakbari, prior to his fight with the Brazilian, held a series of four straight wins.
Marcus Buchecha Almeida quickly gained control on the ground, where he worked from the top and tried to pass the Iranian’s position. At one point, Buchecha was close to getting into a dosada. Aliakbari panicked and, wanting to wriggle out, gave up his back which Almeida took advantage of eagerly. Buchecha very quickly fastened the choke from behind and thus forced Amir Aliakbari to tap out.
